About Us

Human Rights and Everyday Justice.

Welcome to HakiZako

At HakiZako, we believe in a world where understanding and demanding your rights is not just a concept but a way of life. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to educate communities on their rights and promote everyday justice using innovative, informal approaches. In a landscape where human rights discussions often seem distant and exclusive, we’re here to bridge that gap. We bring the principles of justice out of the courtroom and into your daily life, making them accessible, relatable, and essential.
Explore our initiatives, join us, work with us, support us, and be a part of a community that believes in the transformative power of knowledge.

Vision

A just society where every person understands their rights, can claim them, and is supported to live with dignity.

Mission

To empower communities with rights knowledge, legal access, and strategic support by combining grassroots education, pro bono legal services, and rights-based consulting — making the law a practical tool for everyday justice.

Values

• Accessibility – Rights should be understandable and usable by everyone.
• Solidarity – We work with communities, not for them.
• Justice – We center dignity, equity, and accountability.
• Integrity – We value accuracy, ethics, and responsibility
• Innovation – We leverage creative and technological tools to expand access

Theory of Change

1. The Problem

Many people experience injustice not because laws do not exist, but because they:
  • do not know their rights,
  • do not understand pathways to demand or enforce them,
  • and lack access to affordable, culturally relevant legal support.

2. Our response

Haki Zako addresses this gap through an integrated model:

  • Human rights education equips people with knowledge they can use.
  • Community outreach ensures rights education reaches people where they live and organise.
  • Pro bono legal support provides capacity when legal intervention is needed.
  • Consulting and research generate resources, insights, and funding that feed back into community justice work.

The change we seek

When communities understand their rights and can access support, they are better able to protect themselves, organize, and demand accountability.

Sustainability & Growth

Haki Zako operates as a hybrid social justice initiative. Our work is sustained through a combination of partnerships, fundraising, and income from our consulting arm. A portion of consulting revenue is reinvested into rights education, community outreach, and legal aid programs.
This model allows us to grow responsibly while remaining rooted in community needs.

At HakiZako, we believe in a world where understanding and demanding your rights is not just a concept but a way of life.
